District Woman MP hopeful Dr. Sarah Khanakwa says that politicization of
development initiatives will retard the development of the District.
Khanakwa’s call comes amidst a misunderstanding
amongst councilors at Namisindwa District Local Government Council regarding
400 million shillings which is being used to construct a theater at Bumbo
Health Centre III in Bumbo Town Council.
Dr. Sarah Khanakwa says that she was behind the
lobbying of the 400 million shillings for the construction of the theater at
Bumbo Health Center III, a claim dismissed by a section of councilors at
Namisindwa District Local Government. The councilors accuse their own, Martha
Muyama, the secretary for health and female councilor representing Bumbo Town
Council for spreading falsehood that the funds were actually lobbied by Dr.
Sarah Khanakwa from the Ministry of Finance.
In a heated council meeting on Thursday, the
councilors demanded an apology from Muyama for spreading false information
about the funds. Alex Mulokoyi the secretary for education said that the funds
were lobbied by the Namisindwa District LCV Chairperson Jackson Wakweika and
not by Dr. Khanakwa as alleged.
Moses Waburoko the councilor representing
Tsekululu sub county demanded that Muyama apologizes to council in the next
sitting. Waburoko said that should Muyama decline to apologize, she risks being
sacked from the District Executive Committee (DEC).
But Muyama says she will not apologize. She accuses
her fellow councilors of witch-hunt because she opted to support Dr. Sarah
Khanakwa instead of Peace Khalayi for the position of District Woman Member of
Parliament for Namisindwa in the coming elections. Muyama says Uganda is a
democratic country where everyone supports a candidate of their choice.
