Opposition political party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is
financially empowering its young members through Saccos.
FDC party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi said
this on Saturday while launching the Sironko District FDC Youth Sacco.
According to Amuriat, they are carrying out countrywide tours encouraging youth
leaders to form Saccos in order to get startup capital.
He says that with
the 2026 general elections coming up, many opposition youths are compromised by
the ruling national resistance movement with financial inducements. Amuriat
says the youth who later cross to the ruling party leave the opposition
weakened.
Phiona Nakayenze
the FDC Youth Chairperson for Eastern Uganda says the Sacco has started with 50
members and will help members in Sironko to access credit at a fair interest
rate. Nakayenze says that more Saccos will be launched in Sebei and Busoga
Sub-regions.
