Mufti Commissions New Mosque in Busia

His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has commissioned a new mosque constructed by Turkish philanthropists in Busia, a district that borders Uganda and Kenya.


In his address to the Muslim congregants gathered for the occasion, Mufti Mubaje described this generous act as a significant milestone in the brotherly cooperation between Uganda and the Republic of Turkey.

He urged the Muslim faithful in the area to utilize the new mosque for the worship of Almighty Allah, and briefly shared the state of affairs at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), including the recent breakthrough collaboration between UMSC and the State of Kuwait-based INSAN International Charitable Organization. In conclusion, he thanked the Turkish donors for sponsoring several social transformation projects among locals, and expressed profound gratitude to the NRM Government led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the prevailing political stability that enabled such foreign charities to carry out beneficial activities in the communities.

He also implored all Ugandan citizens to participate fully in Census activities which commenced on Friday, May 10th, 2023, describing it as vital for national planning and development. He also called upon them to utilize all government-designed poverty alleviation programs, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).

 Earlier, several prominent personalities delivered speeches praising the achieved development, including Mr. Kibwiika Michael, the Resident District Commissioner of Busia, who pledged to work closely with Muslim leaders. Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Hamid Wandega, Eastern Regional Assistant to the Mufti, and Sheikh Jamiru Obandyo, the host Kadhi of Busia Muslim District, mainly highlighted Muslim activities in the region and the district respectively. On the part of the donors, Mr. Mehmet and Mr. Esad expressed gratitude to the Mufti and area Muslim leaders for their good working relationship.

Upon arrival in Busia, the Mufti paid a courtesy visit to the Kadhi's Office and later had a guided tour of the ongoing construction of the District Mosque, expected to accommodate over 500 worshippers. In attendance were local leaders, including Area Member of the National Parliament, Mr. Ausi Wamimbi, Director of Muyassar Muslim Foundation, Sheikhs, among others.
