Apollo Masika the Namisindwa County Member of Parliament says he will run as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.

Masika lost to Metrin Musufwa Nanzala in the NRM primaries. Musufwa got 28,108 votes against Masika’s 15,477 votes.

This comes after he lost the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries to Metrin Musufwa Nanzala, who garnered 28,108 votes, while Masika received 15,477 votes.

Other candidates in the race included Wilbrod Nakhabala (10,579 votes), Gerald Musamali(9,004 votes), Joram Katambi(4,690 votes), John Bosco Wepukhulu(4,317 votes), Samuel Situma(1,718 votes), Rogers Kutosi(3,123 votes), Paul Khaukha(466 votes) and James Wanzala with 252 votes.

According to Masika, the NRM primaries were marred with irregularities such as cases of underage children queuing to be counted. He also claims that in the Sub Counties of Bungati, Tsekululu and Mukoto, village registrars fabricated results. Basing on the irregularities, Masika now says he will run as an independent.

Aramazani Wabuko, the Namisindwa District NRM Chairperson has dismissed Masika’s complaints urging him to accept defeat and support the NRM flag bearer, Metrin Musufwa Nanzala.
