The Archbishop of Tororo Catholic Archdiocese Emmanuel Obbo has urged government to expedite the process of resettling people living in disaster risk areas in the Bugisu region.

Speaking to hundreds of Christians during a mass wedding at St. Charles Lwanga Kikuyu Catholic Church under Muyembe Catholic Parish located in Simu Sub-county in Bulambuli District, the Archbishop Obbo said government had aimed at relocating all people living in risk areas but the program has failed to progress yet the rains are about to start.

Obbo urged Members of Parliament from Bugisu Sub-region to prioritize the matter by reminding government so as to save people’s lives.

Sarah Wekomba Nambozo, the Bulambuli District Woman Member of Parliament said she recently raised the matter on the floor of Parliament. According to Wekomba, she reminded government about the deplorable conditions the people who were relocated to Bunambutye Government Resettlement Area are going through. Wekomba identified challenges like lack of water, schools and health facilities.
