Local council leaders of seven sub-counties in Namisindwa district are demanding heightened security following cases of armed robbers targeting the business community.

The seven sub-counties are Bumbo Town Council, Bumbo Sub County, Bukokho, Lwakhakha Town Council, Bumwoni Sub County, Mukhuyu, and Bukiabi.

On Tuesday, armed thugs robbed 40 million shillings from a businessman in Bukokho sub-county, and last month a businesswoman was robbed of more than 20 million shillings at gunpoint.

On Wednesday, armed thugs also raided the home of another businessman Yusufu Kitutu Walutsa of Sehana village, in Bumwoni Sub County.

According to John Wafula the LCIII Chairperson of Bukokho Sub County, they have written to the Resident District Commissioner demanding heightened security saying that the only option is for the government to establish police posts or an army barracks in the area.

Imran Muluga, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner said that he plans to meet leaders of sub-counties neighboring Mount Elgon National Park and the Kenyan border.
