Oxfam in partnership with other partners has opened a regional disaster warehouse in Mbale City.
The warehouse will see non-food relief items meant for disaster struck areas stored there. The warehouse found at Mbale Red cross offices will serve the Districts of Mbale, Bududa, Namisindwa, Sironko and Butaleja.
Speaking at the opening, Jimmy Ogwang, a disaster preparedness officer at office of the prime minister applauded Oxfam and other implementing partners for putting up warehouses in disaster prone areas.
Edward Mwebaze an official from Oxfam said that the setting up of a warehouse in Elgon region was inevitable since numerous disasters often occur in Elgon region.
Solome Juliet Namara the Namisindwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner welcomed the warehouse saying it will provide timely support to disaster stricken communities.
