Parish chiefs and LCII Chairpersons in Namisindwa have been accused of extorting money from beneficiaries of the government’s parish development model (PDM) programme.

Speaking at the launch of the PDM programme yesterday at Buwabwala Sub County offices, beneficiaries like Beatrice Nambuya and Joyce Kakai accused the parish chief Evelyn Namarome and LCII Chairperson Amos Kutosi of extorting 10,000 shillings from them before being registered.

They claim many would be beneficiaries missed out after failing to raise the money. They are now demanding for action against officers accused of extorting money from them yet President Yoweri Museveni said the PDM programme had no charges.

Jackson Wakweika the LCV chairperson for Namisindwa has condemned the action by the parish chiefs saying it may disorganize the successful implementation of the government programme.

Andrew Wabweni the Namisindwa PDM focal person says each PDM beneficiary was meant to pay only 5,000 shillings for photocopying and other related activities. Wabweni says that no extra charges were supposed to be levied.

Amos Kutosi the LCII Chairperson for Busambatsa town board has dismissed the allegations leveled against him saying they only charged 5,000 shillings from each beneficiary.
