Cross border cattle thefts are a concern to authorities in Namisindwa District as the festive season sets in.

Hajji Imran Muluga the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner while addressing a security meeting said they have received information that there is a group of people stealing animals from Uganda and taking them to neighboring Kenya. Muluga says cattle stolen in Kenya finds its way to Uganda.

According to Muluga, cattle thefts have been reported in the subcounties of Bumbo, Bukokho and Lwakhakha town council. Muluga now says that a resolution has been passed requiring all animals crossing to Kenya and being brought into Uganda should possess valid movement permits.

Muhammad Murefu the LCIII chairperson for Lwakhakha town council says they will use extension officers to verify the authenticity of animal movement permits.
