Members of Parliament on Monday afternoon in a special sitting paid tribute to the late Dokolo Woman MP, Cecilia Ogwal, who passed away from cancer on Thursday last week.

The special session followed the public viewing of her body. During the special sitting, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among said that Ogwal’s health deteriorated during the recently concluded Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC).

According to the Speaker, the state of Ogwal’s ill health was not known to many because she wanted it treated as a private matter. She added that while the late Ogwal was elected to represent the people of Dokolo under the Forum for Democratic Party (FDC) she legislated for the good of the entire population.

In her motion for parliament to pay tribute to the late Ogwal, Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja said that the late Ogwal was a competent leader who together with others strengthened constitutionalism, democracy, parliamentary practice, political tolerance, and rule of law, and encouraged cohesion amongst different shades of opinions.

Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Budadiri West MP said that the late had competency in whatever she did. He commended the late Cecilia as someone who debated without fear or favor for the nation. According to the burial program, there will be a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral on Tuesday before the body departs for Dokolo on Wednesday. Burial will be held on Saturday 27th January, 2024.
