Police Officers Investigated After Fatally Shooting Suspect in Namisindwa District

Police in the Elgon region have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding an incident where police officers on duty shot dead a suspect. 


The deceased has been identified as Ronald Chateka, a 24-year-old resident of Nafwa village, Buwabwala sub-county in Namisindwa district. 

According to Julie Namara, the Deputy Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner, the events unfolded on Sunday morning when two police officers, Elizabeth Watila and Sam Kirop, stationed at the Buwabwala police post, attempted to arrest Chateka on undisclosed charges. Namara stated that during the arrest attempt, Chateka resisted and allegedly threatened the officers with dangerous weapons.

In the ensuing confrontation, a bullet struck him in the head, resulting in his immediate death.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, indicating that Watila has been apprehended and is currently in custody. Sam Kirop is currently evading capture, prompting a police search to bring him to justice.
