Young people have been asked to prioritize vocational skills as a means of empowerment and development.

This call was made by Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa Male Youth Councilor, while addressing students currently undergoing skills training at the Presidential Skilling Centre in Mbale District. The students are preparing for their final Level 1 DIT exams in various courses, including carpentry, shoemaking, hairdressing, baking, and welding.

Bwayo stressed that skills development is the way forward for young people and urged the government to support graduates with startup capital.

The hub manager, Philip Woniala, applauded parents for entrusting them with their children and appreciated the government’s continued support. He encouraged new applicants to prepare, as enrollment for the next intake will begin next month. He added that enrollment is free and warned against any attempts to charge money for the process.

Mukhwana Shamim Brenda, a building and construction student from Bududa, and Munialo Herbert, a hairdressing student from Manafwa, voiced their appreciation to the President for this initiative. They encouraged fellow youths to join the program and pledged to use the acquired skills to contribute positively to their communities and for personal growth.
