The ministry of gender, labor and social development has asked Ugandans to report cases of child marriages.

Mondo Kyateka the commissioner for youth and children affairs at the gender ministry says that Ugandans cannot spectate as cases of child marriage and teenage pregnancies continue. Kyateka says that ignoring the problem is an indicator that many Ugandans are accomplices of the vice.

Kyateka said this at a dissemination meeting of the national strategy to end child marriage and teenage pregnancy in District Local Governments. The dissemination meeting was held at Mbale District Local Government offices in Maluku ward, Mbale City.

Meresi Mutonyi the Mbale District Community Development Officer says that using statistics from the health management information system, close to 10,000 teenage pregnancies have been registered in the last five years (2018-2023) in Mbale. Mutonyi underscores the need for children to remain in school in order to curb child marriages.

Gibedya Mudathir Uthman the Imam for Bilal Mosque in Mbale City has called for responsible parenting saying some parents rarely interact with their children. He has condemned the indecent dressing by many young people as it could trigger teenage pregnancies
