Police and military arrested the suspects mostly for petty offenses like snatching, pickpocketing, and assault.
Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson said 4,039 of the suspects are male adults, 242 are female adults, 68 are male juveniles and three are female minors.
One of the suspects was arrested at Namirembe Cathedral trying to steal a motorcycle from the dozens that had been parked. At the Enkuka Yo’Mwaka festival held at the Lubiri Grounds, one person was arrested after pepper spraying a police officer near the performance stage. It took the intervention of the military police to contain the situation. Most of the suspects were arrested after midnight when they attempted to attack people returning from entertainment and worship places.
Stephen Tanui, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander said several meetings had been held to prepare, secure, and deal with criminal-minded people.
