Forum for Democratic Change Presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has promised to contribute one million coffee seedlings to the people of Serere District as a pilot project aimed at introducing coffee growing in Teso.
Nandala said this on Friday while addressing supporters in Opuure parish, Atiira Sub County in Serere District.
According to Nandala, Teso region was known for cotton growing but this is no longer the case which calls for a need to try out other cash crops like coffee to boost the income of the people at household level. Nandala stressed that the people of Teso are poor because they don’t have any cash crop they can rely on despite having fertile soils.
He expressed bitterness over the different government programmes in Teso claiming that they had not impacted on the people.
Nandala said that his government will bring economic prosperity to the people of Teso through providing support to small enterprises, agriculture, hospitals and schools.
