The independent electoral commission of Uganda is engaging young people in secondary schools and higher institutions of learning with a view of averting political violence ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The electoral commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said this at a youth symposium held at Nabumali High School in Mbale District.

According to Byabakama, they are meeting young people in secondary schools and higher institutions of learning to encourage them not to engage in electoral violence and to ask them to vie for the various political positions in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Byabakama said that in the 2021 general elections, many young people were used by some politicians to cause chaos and engage in confrontation politics. He says they don’t want such a trend to continue in the 2026 general elections.

Arthur Wafukho the Nabumali High School Head Prefect welcomed the sensitization plan by the electoral commission targeting the young people ahead of the 2026 general elections.
