3 suspects in Busoga East arrested in connection with the death of a prominent farmer.

Police in Busoga East has arrested three suspects in connection to the death of a prominent farmer in Mayuge district. 


Alex Owori, a renowned farmer in Kanyabwima village, in Buwaaya sub county, in Mayuge district was killed by unknown individuals and his body dumped in the garden. His body bore deep cuts in the head, chest and stomach areas. 

85-year-old Owori has been a seasoned cocoa, sugarcane and coffee farmer, offering capacity building trainings to not only farmers, but also students from different agriculture training institutions across the country. His son, Simon Ofwono, told journalists that his father had sold off produce worth 20 Million Shillings prior to his killing. 

The suspects who are currently detained at Mayuge central police station are Enock Buwadda, Ronald Swaata and Joel Walwasa. The trio have recorded statements in which they confessed to have killed Owori in the process of robbing money from him. The trio who are neighbors of the deceased, stated that their initial intention was to kidnap Owori, rob his money and abandon him in one of his plantations. However, on realizing that he had recognized their voices, they resolved to kill him. 

The Busoga East police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula, confirms the incident, adding that they were arrested after Owori's clothing and part of the money implicated them. Nandawula says that the suspects will face two counts of murder and kidnap.
