Residents and leaders in Mbale Northern City Division are calling for the upgrade of Namakwekwe Health Centre III to Health Centre IV.

This push is driven by the need for better service delivery, particularly given the growing population in the area.

The facility faces significant challenges, including inadequate staffing, with less than 20 support staff. The infrastructure is also limited, with few buildings to accommodate the large number of patients.

John Namwanga, a resident says the government should intervene and upgrade the facility or establish more health facilities to save residents from incurring costs while travelling long distances to reach a few existing health centres which are ever congested with patients.

Rehema Wanjiro, the in-charge at Namakwekwe Health Centre III, emphasizes the facility's limitations, citing the lack of in-patient services due to insufficient space. She says that the maternity ward also lacks privacy, making it uncomfortable for mothers to deliver.

Aisha Mugoya, Mbale City Councillor and Secretary for Social Services has pledged to engage the City Mayor to push for the government to upgrade the facility.
