Water and Environment Minister Sam Mangusho Cheptoris has launched a 9.5-million-dollar project which aims at enhancing community adaptation to climate change through climate resilient flood early warning, catchment management, water and sanitation technologies in Mpologoma catchment area.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Water and Environment in partnership with Water Aid Uganda with funding from the Adaptation Fund.

Speaking at the launch held at Mbale Resort Hotel in Mbale City on Wednesday, Cheptoris said the project aims at increasing the resilience of communities to climate change risks of floods and landslides through timely response to climate hazards, sustainable community access to water, sanitation and hygiene services.

Dr. Joyce Magara the Water Aid Country Director said that in a bid to attain the sustainable development goal number 6 of having clean water and sanitation by 2030, there is need to realize the threat posed by climate change.

The Chairperson of the Mpologoma Catchment Area Committee and Bubulo East legislator, John Musila has welcomed the project but urged the community to take the lead by planting more trees and to desist from encroaching on river banks.
