A group of 153 pilgrims, who undertook this year’s Haj pilgrimage, have returned safely to Uganda.

These pilgrims, who passed through the UMSC Haj and UMRA Office, arrived back home on Sunday, July 9th, 2023. The pilgrims traveled to the Holy City of Makkah in the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aboard Uganda Airlines, the national carrier.

They were led by Sheikh Ali Juma Shiwuyo, the Secretary for Haj and UMRA. Upon their arrival at Entebbe Airport, they were warmly received by His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, accompanied by Hon. Muhammad Ali Aluma, the UMSC Secretary General.

According to Zziwa Ashiraf the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Spokesman, the returning pilgrims were in good health and high spirits.

In response to media inquiries regarding some Ugandan Muslims who had paid for the pilgrimage through private Haj Service Companies but were unable to go, Sheikh Waiswa explained that UMSC, in collaboration with other stakeholders, intends to form a committee to investigate the cause and explore possibilities for compensation.
