Sironko Women Urged to Embrace Government Programmes

Ugandan Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja has asked women to embrace all government programmes in order to fight poverty and enhance their income at household level.



 

Nabbanja sounded the appeal on Friday last week while presiding over the belated Women’s Day celebrations for Sironko District. The celebrations were held at Mafudu Primary School in Mafudu Sub County.

 

According to Nabanja, the Ugandan government has programmes like the Uganda Women Empowerment Programme(UWEP), Youth Livelihood, Emyooga and Parish Development Model(PDM). She says the programmes are aimed at empowering women so that they don’t solely depend on their husbands.

Hajji Suleiman Mafabi Lumolo the Sironko National Resistance Movement Chairperson applauded President Yoweri Museveni for prioritizing women through cabinet appointments. Lumolo asked political leaders at local government level to emulate President Museveni.
