Namagumba-Budadiri-Nalugugu Road Construction Commissioned

Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has commissioned the construction of the 39km Namagumba- Budadiri- Nalugugu road.

The ground breaking ceremony was held at Nakiwondye playground in Budadiri town council, Sironko District. The 39km road will be upgraded from gravel to tarmac. The overall project cost is estimated at USD 77.74 million including compensation and resettlement costs.

Budadiri West Member of Parliament Nathan Nandala Mafabi urged the government to speed the compensation and construction for the people to ably use the road.

Isaiah Sasaga the MP for Budadiri West said the road has been a burning issue and now that it has been commissioned, the people of Sironko should embrace it.

Samuel Muhoozi, the manager in charge of roads and bridges at Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) said the road will facilitate movement of people and goods and boost the tourism sector especially at the Mt. Elgon National Park. Muhoozi also explained that all project affected people will be compensated before road construction starts.
