A one-day workshop aimed at sensitizing senior
six leavers on the application process for the government student loan scheme
and Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) bursaries has been organized by Isaiah
Sasaga Wanzira, the legislator for Budadiri East constituency.
The workshop, held at
Sironko Parent’s Secondary School drew senior six leavers from districts across
Bugisu Sub-region.
According to Sasaga,
also the BCU Sironko Valley Zone Director said that many students from Bugisu
are not aware of the application process for loan schemes and this prompted him
to organize the workshop to provide guidance.
Sasaga says that
students who studied sciences and are from Bugisu Sub-region must apply and
compete with students from other parts of Uganda to be considered for the loan
schemes. He also notes that BCU farmers are not aware that their children can
access bursaries from BCU, a reason he organized the workshop to sensitize them
on the process of application which is done through their primary societies.
John Khaukha, an
academic from Livingstone University advised students to be cautious when
selecting universities or other higher institutions of learning.
