The Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID and Statehouse Anti-Corruption Unit have formed a joint team to expeditiously inquire into the alleged theft of Karamoja relief iron sheets on the directives of the president.

The Karamoja Ministry, which under the Office of Prime Minister-OPM, has been in the midst of a storm over the diversion of relief items procured for the region.

The irons sheets were shared by top government officials including ministers. Recently, the Karamoja Parliamentary Group formally wrote to the Clerk to Parliament, notifying him of their intent to file a notice of motion for the censure of Karamoja Affairs Minister Mary Gorreti Kitutu.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, says that they received the orders from the Director of Public Prosecution-DPP who was also directed by the President to join hands with the Anti-corruption unit and expand the investigations into the alleged theft of iron sheets in Karamoja.

Enanga explains that the investigations will be expanding what has already been unearthed in this scandal, and all the suspects will be summoned anytime.

Key among those who have since been named in the iron sheet scandal include the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, Finance Minister, Matia Kasaija, his Junior Minister, Amos Lugoloobi, Karamoja Affairs Minister, Mary Gorreti Kitutu and her junior Agnes Nandutu among others.
