The Police in Mbale City is on the spot for allegedly conniving with criminals to terrorize residents.

The accusation by residents of Nkoma and Namakwekwe wards in Northern City Division stems from the Police’s decision to release criminals.

Some residents who preferred anonymity cited one Sadik Kamali, a resident of Wagagai Cell, in Nkoma ward who snatched a phone from a woman on Sunday night. According to the residents, Kamali survived being lynched by an angry mob after he was taken to IUIU Police post.

To their dismay, Kamali was released on police bond just after a few hours. The residents are now living in fear after Kamali threatened to harm them. They also accuse the Police of freeing other criminals which has led to an upsurge of insecurity in the area. They are threatening to resort to mob justice as one way of curbing criminality.

But the Elgon Region Police Spokesman Rogers Taitika says releasing suspects on bond does not mean they have been exonerated. Taitika says Police bond is for everyone and the residents must desist from engaging in in acts of mob justice by reporting suspected criminals to Police.
