The Uganda Land Commission (ULC) has launched a comprehensive, digitally enabled inventory of all government land to ensure accurate documentation, update records, and curb encroachment, illegal occupation, and loss of public property.

The announcement was made during a press conference at Mbale City Council chambers on Wednesday, following a stakeholders’ engagement meeting attended by ULC officials, City Council leaders, the City Land Board, surveyors, and other officials.

Government land under review includes institutional land such as schools, hospitals, and ministries; infrastructure land including roads, power lines, and public open spaces; administrative land covering district headquarters and sub-counties; and public utility land.

Christine Aporu Amongin, Commissioner at ULC, said the government has begun digitizing all land records for 16 cities and municipalities nationwide to ensure transparency and prevent encroachment.

Ronnie Bahungahe, Senior Land Officer at ULC, said Mbale City Council is expected to submit a list of all government land under its jurisdiction, as well as any other government-owned parcels in the city. He added that stakeholders will assist in verifying government land, supporting surveys and boundary openings, confirming title ownership, and identifying unsurveyed land for processing.
