There is a shortage of beds at Health Center IIIs in Bududa District forcing expectant mothers to deliver from the floor.

The most affected are Bufuma Health Centre III in Bufuma Sub County, Bushiyi Health Centre III in Bushiyi Sub County and Bumayoka Health Centre III in Bumayoka Sub County.

David Kamoti the LCV chairperson for Bududa district says the named health centres have between two to five beds. Kamoti says that most expectant mothers usually have nowhere to sleep when admitted.

Emma Wanasolo the in charge of Bufuma health center III says that the facility received between seven to ten expectant mothers daily yet they only have four beds with no mattresses.

This forced Lusekhe County legislator Isaac Modoi to donate 22 bed and 22 mattresses to Bufuma and Bushiyi Health Centre IIIs. Modoi pledged to lobby for more beds so that all health centres in his constituency are well equipped.

David Mayeku and Micheal Mutsetse are residents of Bufuma Sub County. They have asked government to fully equip the health units to boost health service delivery.
