A commercial motorcycle rider (boda boda) was last night knocked dead by a truck along the Mbale-Kumi road.
The rider has been identified as Latif Mafuko, 22 years and a resident of Namanyonyi village in Northern City Division in Mbale City. Mafuko was riding a bajaj boxer motorcycle, registration number UFZ 884E
Moses Mutabingwa the Elgon region traffic officer in charge says a Mercedes benz truck truck registration number SSD 8547/SSD 991T from Kumi heading to Mbale knocked Mafuko at Afia village. He died on spot.
Mutabingwa says Mafuko emerged from a feeder road in Namabasa and hurriedly joined the main road where he was hit by the speeding truck. The truck also hit other people by the roadside. He attributes the accident to over speeding and careless driving by both the rider and driver.
