Bugisu MPs to Table Motion Demanding Government Recognition of Mutoto Cultural Site

Members of Parliament from Bugisu Sub region have resolved to table a motion in Parliament to compel government to recognize the Mutoto cultural site in Mbale City.

 


The cultural site which sits on over 10 acres of land is where the Bamasaba traditional circumcision ceremony is officially launched every even year in August.

 

Speaking during the launch of this year’s circumcision on Saturday, Godfrey Wakooli Matembu, the Butiru County legislator and Chairperson of the Bugisu Parliamentary Caucus, said despite the fact that National Forestry Authority (NFA) donated the land to the Bamasaba, it is yet to be gazzetted by government.

 

Simon Mulongo, the State Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, urged Bamasaba to use circumcision as a unifying factor.

 

Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth Oboth applauded Bamasaba for preserving thwir culture. He urged them to embrace government programmes that aim at improving household income.
