The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, has called on the Ministry of Works and Bulambuli District Local Government to accelerate the construction of roads in the Bunambutye Government Resettlement Area.

The government, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, in collaboration with Bulambuli District Local Government, recently began constructing 20 murram roads to improve accessibility in the resettlement area.

Nabbanja made the remarks during her tour of the resettlement area to assess the progress of the road construction works. Her visit follows a meeting held last week at the Mbale District headquarters in Malukhu, where she engaged Bugisu stakeholders to discuss sustainable disaster management solutions.

During the meeting, Nabbanja assured George Mitiga, the engineer overseeing the road construction project, that she would personally inspect the ongoing works. The Prime Minister revealed that the government has allocated UGX 50 billion to support resettlement efforts for people living in disaster-prone areas in the Bugisu region. A portion of these funds is being used to construct the 20 roads in Bunambutye to enhance accessibility for current and future settlers.

Bulambuli District LC V Chairperson, Annet Nandudu, appealed to the Prime Minister to extend the road network to neighboring sub-counties. She highlighted that the district’s road funding is insufficient to open new roads, despite the growing need for better infrastructure in the area.
