Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has called for a need to attract private capital as key strategy for creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

Nandala sounded the call at the 2026 annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Thailand.

An international consultant and Board Chairperson of the Bugisu Cooperative Union,

Nandala stressed that the private sector has the potential to generate up to 95% of jobs globally, making private investment essential for sustainable economic growth and employment creation.

He also called for a reduction in government borrowing from domestic commercial banks, warning that excessive public borrowing can crowd out private investors by limiting access to affordable credit.

He explained that improving access to financing for businesses would encourage investment, expand economic activity and create more jobs for Uganda’s growing youth population.
