BCU Unveils Plans to Acquire Coffee Processing Machine

Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) has unveiled plans to acquire a coffee processing machine to boost value addition.


As such, BCU has written to government seeking funds totaling to 120million US dollars to go towards the procurement of the coffee processing machine.


Addressing delegates at the BCU Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at BCU headquarters in Mbale City, Board Chairperson Nathan Nandala Mafabi revealed plans to acquire the coffee processing machine saying that it will enable farmers to export processed coffee and therefore boost their income.


John Musila, the BCU Board Vice Chairperson said that the coffee processing machine would enable farmers add value to their produce. 


Isaiah Sasaga, the Director for Sironko Valley Zone said BCU plans to renovate primary societies that are in a poor state in a bid to improve services for farmers.


Mbale Resident District Commissioner Stanley Bayole urged farmers in Bugisu to sell their coffee to BCU.
