The Police in Elgon region has warned against reckless driving as the festive season sets in.
Christmas and New Year festivities often register an upsurge in road accidents and the Police is determined to stop the trend this time.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region Police Spokesman says that with the festive season setting in, they are ready to handle any cases of reckless driving so as to save lives.
Francis Weswa the Director, Rear Guard Driving School in Mbale City attributes most accidents in the festive season to unqualified drivers and those driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to traffic police statistics, 55 people perished in road crashes in last years’ Christmas season.
