The Bishop of Namirembe, Rt. Reverend Moses Banja has raised concerns over the increasing level of corruption in the country, saying that it does not reflect the power of resurrection received from Jesus Christ.

In his Easter message delivered at Namirembe Cathedral on Thursday, Bishop Banja mentioned that corruption is the order of the day in government institutions and other organizations. He added that currently, Ugandans no longer regard corruption as a sin.

Banja also condemned the increased human rights violations in the country, which include abductions, unlawful arrests, and the acts of torture exhibited by security operatives, most notably in the just concluded Kawempe North by-elections.

Bishop Banja prayed for respect and peace among different political players in the forthcoming national elections in 2026, which is anticipated to be marred by violence and a lot of human rights violations.

Meanwhile, Rev. Steven Lumu, the diocesan mission secretary, said that the Holy Thursday is the day when Jesus Christ instituted the sacrament of the holy Eucharist when he served the disciples a dinner.
