The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Namisindwa District has urged her opponents in the recent party primaries to rally behind her in the 2026 general elections.

Addressing the media on Tuesday at Mt. Elgon Hotel, Peace Khalayi said that unity is essential and that politics is a game that requires collaboration.

According to Khalayi, her opponents, Dr. Sarah Khanakwa, Grace Namukhula, Dorothy Nebokhe Walukawu, Victor Kharundu and Zubeda Wasike should join her in galvanizing support for her candidature and the NRM party.

She said that it is not logical for the losers to contest as independents warning that it could give an opportunity to the opposition to penetrate Naminsindwa District which is NRM dominated.

According to the NRM results, Peace Khalayi garnered 82,419 votes, Dr. Sarah Khanakwa, 52,331, Grace Namukhula, 29,437, Dorothy Nebokhe Walukawu, 4,740, Victor Kharundu, 1,154 and Zubeda Wasike with 578 votes.

Dr. Sarah Khanakwa has signaled that she might consider running as an independent in the 2026 general elections.
