Minister for the Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda has asked urban authorities to stop approving construction of building plans in wetlands.

Minister Babalanda sounded the appeal at a three-day training workshop for Resident District Commissioners(RDCs), District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) and Regional Internal Security Officers (RISOs) drawn from Bugisu, Bukedi and Sebei Sub regions. The training organized by office of the president was held at Wash and Wills Hotel in Mbale City.

According to Babalanda, RDCs should work hand in hand with urban authorities to stop the approval of construction plans in wetlands. Babalanda says that there is need for RDCs and other security agencies to enforce the presidential directive of stopping all activities in the wetlands in a bid to conserve the environment.

Former Minister Daudi Migereko advised RDCs to also monitor schools to improve education standards as part of the plan to transform Uganda.
