Police in Sironko are investigating an incident in which a mother is suspected to have poisoned herself and three of her biological children.
The mother identified as Cherop Sakiya aged 29 died with her 5 year old son, Mazinga Francis. The other two children in critical condition at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital include Wabomba Marvin 10 years and Mazaki Samuel 7 years.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region Police Spokesman says the incident happened last night at around 8pm in Nabidago cell in Mutufu Town council Sironko district.
According to Taitika, It's alleged that Cherop Sakiya laced poison in porridge which she took with her three children. Taitika says that preliminary investigations point to the fact that Cherop carried out the act after getting information that her husband Gidudu Samuel, a UPDF officer attached to Magamaga barracks had married a second wife.
The samples have been picked, pending transportation to Kampala for further analysis. The two bodies are pending postmortem from Mbale City Mortuary.
