LCIII Chairpersons in Mbale District are being accused of frustrating the implementation of the government’s parish development model (PDM) programme.

This was made at a planning and review meeting for the parish development model in Mbale District. The meeting was held at Mbale Secondary School Main Hall.

George Davidson Wanakina the Mbale District PDM Focal Person said that they have received reports that some LCIII chairpersons are encouraging PDM beneficiaries not pay back funds they have received under the programme. According to Wanakina, the leaders are confusing the beneficiaries that the funds are a token of appreciation from government under the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni.

Ibrahim Wasukira the LCIII Chairperson for Jewa town council and Richard Muchere the LCIII Chairperson for Nyondo Sub County, all in Mbale District said leaders frustrating the parish development model are enemies of development.

Nasuru Woguma a tomato farmer from Jewa town council and one of the PDM beneficiaries says he got one million shillings from his SACCO and used it to improve his tomato yields. Woguma says he expects to reap four million shillings once the tomatoes are harvested.
