The Inzu Yamasaba [Masaba cultural institution] says it does not recognize Jude Mike Mudoma as the cultural leader of the Bamasaba.

Last week the chairpersons of the 26 clans converged at Mbale District Offices and resolved to endorse Jude Mike Mudoma as the rightly elected cultural leader of the Bamasaba, the Umukuka.

The meeting was convened after a letter authored by gender state minister Peace Mutuzo asked former Umukuka Wilson Wamimbi to reconcile the two warring sides; one by Jude Mike Mudoma and John Amlam Wagabyalire and come up with one cultural leader.

But Francis Wodero the Inzu Ya Masaba Secretary General says that a cultural leader is elected by delegates and not only chairpersons. Wodero also explains that minister Mutuzo also addressed the letter to Bugisu Cultural Institution and not Masaba Cultural Institution where delegates from the 26 clans elected John Amlam Wagabyalire as the Umukuka.

Nelson Wedayila the speaker of Bugisu Cultural Institution says that they broke away from Masaba Cultural Institution in 2022 and formed the Bugisu Cultural Institution. Wedayila says the clan chairpersons selecting a new Umukuka was in line with the guidance from Minister Mutuzo and anyone dissatisfied with the decision should seek redress in courts of law.
