30 Village Health Teams(VHTs) and LCs in Bungati Sub County,
Namisindwa District today stormed the Sub County offices protesting the delayed
payment of their allowances.
Each VHT
was entitled to 60,000 shillings while chairpersons were meant to get 40,000
shillings. This money was meant to be paid as allowance for work done during
the measles and polio immunization exercise last year.
Nandelege Yokana the LC1
chairman for Woshibi village says they want their money paid since they carried
out their work diligently.
Aidah
Bulali a VHT says that there was no explanation on when their money would be
cleared. Bulali this made them storm the Sub County headquarters for an
explanation.
Stephen
Wokooli the Bungati Sub County Chairperson advised the VHTs and LCs to channel
their grievances to the Namisindwa District authorities.
Bwayo
Emma the Namisindwa District Youth Councillor says that during the last council
meeting held in December last year, they tasked health department to handle the
payment of allowances for the VHTs and LCs. Bwayo is surprised that the issue
has not been sorted.
Dr
Masai Stephen the Namisindwa District Health Officer says the accounts were
update today and payment will be done next week.
