Budadiri East legislator Julius Nakiyi wants
government to include Bugisu on the areas that should be compensated for cattle
lost during past insurgencies and raids by Karamojongs.
Nakiyi raised the
matter on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday stressing that Bugisu suffered
from raids that were carried out from 1987 to the early 2000s. According to
Nakiyi, people’s lives and cattle were lost.
Nakiyi added that the father of former Budadiri East legislator, Isaiah Sasaga, was among those killed by the raiders. He added that Peter Otai's rebel group, Force Obote Back (FOBA), also operated from Bugisu and even killed a Uganda People’s Movement (UPM) historical, the late Perez Musamali from Namisindwa. He noted that Bugisu's historical losses should also be considered for compensation and restocking.
Nakiyi raised the matter as Parliament debated a report by the Presidential Affairs Committee on the status of the ongoing government restocking programme in Lango, Acholi and Teso sub-regions.
