Two people were yesterday killed in
Moroto District over a land dispute.
The deceased are Maritina
Lopido aged 68 years and her daughter Anna Mary Nakoru aged 38 who was also a
councilor for the North division in Moroto Municipality. According to the locals, the mother and the daughter
who was seven –months pregnant were allegedly killed by Mark Losike, their
nephew.
Losike, who is currently on
the run, attacked the two with a spear, killing them instantly after piercing
them several times in the chest. It is alleged
that the deceased and the suspect were fighting over a piece of land measuring
nine acres and the court had fixed the case for hearing.
Dominic Lokiru, the LCI
Chairperson of Kanakomol village in Nadunget sub-county says that Losike found
the two cultivating on the disputed land and attacked them.
Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police
Spokesperson said that the police were notified late about the incident and
found that the suspect had already fled.
