Mbale District Residents Using Hoes to Maintain Roads

Residents of Bungokho Sub County are using hoes to maintain roads that are a preserve of Mbale District Local Government.

Samson Namanda one of the residents in Bungokho Sub County says majority of the people are farmers and the poor state of the roads means they often struggle to transport their products to markets in Mbale City.

Irene Wamala another resident says the failure by the Mbale District Officials to work on the roads forced them to use hoes to try to improve them.

Tonny Wamakale the councilor representing Bungokho Sub County says despite the World Bank allocating more than 100 million shillings towards the maintenance of 25 kilometers of roads in Mbale District, not so much has been done. Wamakale accuses the Mbale District leadership of not following up on the projects to ensure they are properly executed.

But Muhammad Mafabi the Mbale District LCV Chairperson says three roads; Manyonyi- Wambewo in Bungokho Sub County, Imam Hussein in Bubyangu Sub County and another road in Busiu Sub County are yet to be completed as a result of delays by the contractor who was identified by the agriculture ministry. Mafabi says they are engaging authorities at the agriculture ministry to ensure maintenance works on the three roads are completed.
