Although a letter from the President’s Office confirmed the allocation, the funds have not yet been received. A letter from the Office of the President addressed to Manafwa District Local Government indicated that the district would receive UGX 29 billion to begin constructing roads in Mayatsa Sub-county, where the industrial park is to be established.

According to Manafwa District Speaker Isaac Matanda, nearly two years have passed, but the district has not yet received the funds. Last week, during President Museveni’s campaign rally at Butiru High School playground in Manafwa, he reiterated the government’s plan to establish an industrial park to exploit and add value to the district’s vast vermiculite and iron ore deposits, promote commercial agriculture and the four-acre model farming initiative, and expand access to free universal education.

President Museveni emphasized that the project would create jobs and boost local manufacturing. The district has already gazetted more than 100 acres of land for the project, but delays in compensating affected landowners have stalled progress.

Residents of Mayatsa Sub-county, including Annet Nabutono and Peter Musayi, said they support the project but want the government to compensate them before they vacate their land.
