The Ugandan Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities is partnering with the Bamasaba Cultural Institution to promote cultural tourism under the flagship of traditional circumcision, Imbalu.

The traditional circumcision season amongst the Bamasaba will officially be launched on Saturday, 3rd August at Mutoto Cultural site in Mbale City.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting for Imbalu held at Mt. Elgon Hotel, Ssali Ssentongo, a tourism officer with the Ministry of Tourism says they identified culture as a key factor in promoting tourism and the Imbalu is an activity which they intend to support.

As a result, Ssentongo says that in a bid to strengthen the cultural fabric among Bamasaba, they are joining the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, Inzu Ya Masaba to celebrate Imbalu with dignity and splendor. He says that despite providing technical support towards the Imbalu launch, the Tourism Ministry will also make financial contributions to the activity.

Bamasaba Cultural Leader, Jude Mike Mudoma says the partnership will increase visibility and recognition of Imbalu and help them to access funding and resources. Mudoma also says that the partnership will lead to economic growth through cultural tourism and preservation of cultural sites and artefacts.

Rita Namuwenge the Inzu Ya Masaba Gender Minister says the partnership will create employment opportunities across the tourism value chain. According to Namuwenge, there is need to also showcase the potential of Arabica Coffee which is grown by the Bamasaba.
