A 21-year-old man in Rukungiri District
has been arrested for kidnapping a three-year-old baby boy and demanding 1.5
million Shillings ransom.
Medard Akatukunda, a
resident of Mukishanda village, in Rukungiri district was arrested on Tuesday.
Alex Ankunda, the father
says that his child was kidnapped on Monday at around 6:00 pm.
Ankunda says that on the
day, the child went missing, he received a phone call from Akatukunda who was a
casual laborer in the area demanding 1.5 million Shillings ransom for his
release. Ankunda says that he
reported the matter to the police for help.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi
Region Police Spokesperson for Kigezi region says that Akatukunda was tracked
by the police and later arrested while hiding in Kinaba village, in Kanungu
District.
Maate also says that the
baby has been examined and handed over back to the parents as investigations
continue.
