Bududa Disaster Resettlement Victims Query Delayed Allocation of Plots

People living in disaster prone areas in Bududa who were recently taken to Bunambutye resettlement camp in Bulambuli District are decrying the delayed allocation of plots at the camp.

The Ugandan government under the disaster ministry last month resettled more than 200 households at Bunambutye resettlement camp. The resettled households are from the Sub Counties of Bumwalukani, Nabweya, Bunabutiti, Bukalasi, Bushiribo and Bushika town council.

Joseph Wasilibwa one of the disaster victims from Bushiribo Sub County who was resettled at Bunambutye Camp says it is now three weeks since they were relocated but government is yet to allocate them plots on which to stay. He says they are currently staying in tents and classrooms.

David Nangoti another victim who comes from Bushiyi Sub County has asked government to fast-track their return to Bududa since it has failed to allocate them plots.

But Charles Odongtho the head of communications at the Prime Minister’s Office has called for calmness saying that the delay was as a result of the need to first open roads and survey the land before allocating plots to the beneficiaries.
