The Church
of Uganda has initiated discussions with Inspire Africa Coffee to boost coffee
growing and value addition as part of its strategies to put its idle land into
productive use.
The partnership aims to leverage church land and
community networks to create transformative economic opportunities within the
coffee value chain. The discussion arose during the House of Bishops
meeting—the Church of Uganda’s Board of Trustees- on Wednesday at Lweza
Training and Conference Centre.
During the meeting, Dr. Nelson Tugume, the Founder
and Chief Executive Officer of Inspire Africa Coffee, presented the coffee
value chain, from cultivation to value addition. He highlighted the immense
potential of coffee growing and its contribution to economic transformation.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most
Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, commended Inspire Africa Group for
this initiative and pledged the Church’s support.
According to Archbishop Kaziimba, the Church of
Uganda is a significant stakeholder in the coffee business, with several
Dioceses making substantial investments in coffee cultivation as a pathway to
sustainable development.
