The number of candidates who register to take the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and fail to turn up on examination day has gone down in Mbale District.

Mbale District Education Officer, Lydia Musugu says that following the release of the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), they have observed that 52 candidates missed the examinations in 2024 compared to 72 candidates who missed in 2023. Musungu attributes the reduction to sensitization by the political, cultural and religious leaders about the need for children to complete the education cycle.

Mbale District LCV Chairperson Muhammad Mafabi urged leaders at various levels to continue sensitizing parents about the significance of education.

Sarah Mandu, a parent from Busano sub-county, wants the government to impose penalties on parents who facilitate their children’s school dropouts.

Out of 4895 candidates who sat for the Primary Leaving Examinations in 2024 in Mbale District, 157 passed in Division one.
