The traffic lights at a key junction in Mbale city connecting Mugisu Hill Lane, Palisa Road, and Nabuyonga Rise have once again failed, just two days after repairs.

The lights had been dysfunctional for about two years, leading to frequent accidents in the area. Mbale City allocated 8.5 million Shillings from its 2023/24 local revenue budget for the repairs, but the work was delayed until the Mbale City Resident Commissioner, Asumin Nasike, intervened by calling for a press conference and issuing a one-week ultimatum for the lights to be fixed.

Repairs began immediately after the press conference and were completed last Wednesday. However, by Friday, the lights had failed again, leaving residents frustrated. James Nandusi, a boda boda rider, expressed his disappointment, accusing the city of using insufficient funds or lower-quality materials, resulting in the malfunction.

But James Kutosi, the city public relations officer, assured residents that the work had not yet been officially commissioned, encouraging them to remain calm as the necessary actions would be taken to fix the issue.
